My Journey
The Path to the Trifecta: A Timeline of Expertise
2024-Onwards
Recent Wellness Ventures, Publications & Future Focus (2024-Onwards)

Professor Lee launched dedicated business ventures: Regen PhD, onMRi, MAI motion. His second book, the Amazon #1 international bestseller “Regeneration by Design,” was published in 2024. He continues to develop his charity, MSK Regen, embodying his “Live Forever” concept of building foundations for the future.

2017-Present
Consultant Roles, Private Practice & Research Leadership (2017-Present)

Appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the NHS in 2017, Professor Lee also took on significant academic and leadership roles. He established his pioneering private practices: MSK Doctors (founded Nov 2019), The Keep Clinic (2020), and the London Cartilage Clinic (2023), also partnering with Phoenix Hospital Group (2018).

His academic influence grew with Honorary Professorships at the University of Lincoln (appointed 2017) and University of Chester (appointed 2022-2025). His practice achieved recognition as an ICRS International Teaching Centre. He continued to secure major research grants, including significant Innovate UK funding in 2023, and became Regional Surgical Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (appointed 2019). He also became a Q Community Member for the Health Foundation (since 2017).

2014-2017
Surgical Fellowships, Leadership Training & Early Innovation (2014-2017)

Professor Lee achieved the highest surgical qualifications with the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS T&O) in 2015 and his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in the UK in 2016. He was selected for prestigious leadership programmes, undertaking the BOA Clinical Leadership Fellowship (2015-16), Cartilage Regeneration fellowship with Professor James Richardson and the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Fellowship (2016-17). His first book, focusing on Sports Muscle Injuries and Actovegin, was published in 2016.

Innovation took shape with the Consent PLUS project receiving its initial “Innovating for Improvement” grant funding from the Health Foundation in 2016, aimed at improving the patient consent process through technology.
2009-2014
Specialisation & Academic Deep Dive (2009-2014)

Driven to understand performance and biomechanics, he earned an MSc in Sports Medicine from Cardiff University in 2011. Simultaneously, he embarked on a crucial phase of integrating engineering with medicine, undertaking a PhD in Medical Engineering at Cardiff University, awarded in 2014. Guided by mentors like Prof. Len Nokes, this period solidified his analytical approach. He also achieved European Board certification in Orthopaedic Trauma (FEBOT) in 2014 and qualified as a PRINCE 2 Practitioner in project management in 2013.
2000-2009
Medical Degree & Early Surgical Training (2000-2009)

He completed his Medical Degree (MBBch) at Cardiff University in 2005. He quickly established his surgical foundations, gaining Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS) in 2008 and Membership of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine UK (MFSEM) in 2009.
2009-2014
Foundations & Early Engineering Insight (Pre-2000)
Professor Lee’s unique perspective began in Hong Kong, observing his father and grandfather repair complex mechanical typewriters. This instilled an early appreciation for systems thinking – seeing how interconnected parts affect the whole – and sparked an interest in engineering, influencing his approach long before his medical career began.
Key Qualifications Summary
PhD (Med Eng); FRCS (T&O); FEBOT; CCT; MSc (Sports Med); MFSEM; MRCS; MBBch; PRINCE 2.

The Integrated Expertise: How the Three Roles Combine
The synergy between these three identities enables a unique approach to complex challenges.

The Rationale
Master executioner of complex procedures (STARR, STACi, SPAIRE, TWIS-TKR). Sub-specialist in joint preservation, cartilage repair, sports injuries. Holds FRCS (T&O) and FEBOT qualifications. Focused on precision, patient safety, and functional recovery.

Expertise In
Deep knowledge of regenerative medicine, cell biology, biomechanics. PhD holder, Honorary Professor (Lincoln & Chester). Active researcher (>100 publications). Drives evidence-based practice, understanding biological processes, contributes to guidelines.

The Engineer
PhD in Medical Engineering. Applies systems thinking, data analytics (MAI Motion, onMRI), design principles (PRINCE 2 Practitioner). Inventor of technologies (MAI Motion, onMRI, FFIONpod, Regen EMS). Focused on translational solutions and optimisation – engineering new ways when needed.
